NORMAN — Jerry Maurice Harkrider, 57, of Norman, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was born Feb. 12, 1957, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to James and Barbara Harkrider.
Jerry raced cars from the age of 17. He was the driver of the Sport Mod No. 77, which was his favorite hobby on the weekends. He had a heart attack while racing, but unlike most people, Jerry passed away getting to do what he loved doing the most.
Jerry was a truck driver and was the owner of J & H Trucking. He was very ornery, and he never met a stranger. His family was his life. Jerry loved taking care of his mother. His first love was his family, and they loved him and will greatly miss him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Malinda Harkrider of Norman, whom he loved dearly; two daughters, Jennifer Morgan of Norman and Jessica Harkrider of Midwest City; one son, Jerry Harkrider and wife Shayna of Norman; eight grandchildren, Arika Kinman and husband Joshua, Kaylee Harkrider, Tameka Harkrider, Haylee Harkrider Johnson, Jada Harkrider, Jerry Harkrider Jr., Gavin Harkrider and Kynlee Harkrider; two great-grandchildren, Braelei Kinman and Joshua Kinman Jr.; his mother, Barbara Beane; 12 brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family members, friends and “racing brothers.”
He was preceded in death by his father, James; one brother, Steve Beane; and granddaughter, Khalyia Harkrider.
The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the John Ireland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Southgate Baptist Church, 740 SW 4th St. in Moore.
Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore.
