NORMAN — Clara Louise Cameron Hodges, of Oklahoma City, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. Although a long-time resident of Oklahoma City, she was born in Marietta on July 21, 1920.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Sherrer and Joe Sherrer of Moore as well as two grandsons, Andy Sherrer and wife Megan and John Sherrer and wife Joni, both of Norman. In addition, she is survived by five great-grandchildren, Sheridan, Jackson, Samuel, Sydney and Shepard.
Clara Louise was preceded in death by her husband, John Ashley Sherrer; her parents, Crawford Cameron Sr. and Lulabelle Cameron; and her brother, Crawford Cameron Jr., all of Marietta.
She was an elementary school teacher in the Oklahoma City Public Schools before retiring in 1974. She was a graduate of both Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State University) and the University of Oklahoma with a master’s degree. She was also a graduate of Marietta High School and attended Christian College (now Columbia College) in Columbia, Mo.
Clara Louise was a member of The Baptist Temple for over 50 years where she served in the preschool area until physical health kept her from attending. She loved the fact that her church kept in touch with her each week even though she had been unable to attend for years.
Her passion for education continued with a love for reading — often reading three to five books per week and keeping her mind sharp by playing bridge three times a week. She enjoyed her friends and every minute she could spend with family. She loved sports, whether it was watching grandsons play or both men and women’s sports at both OU and OSU. She seldom missed watching a Thunder basketball or Texas Rangers baseball game and could discuss the details of the teams with anyone who would listen.
A service celebrating Clara’s life will be 2 p.m. today at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond.
