Pastor Randy E. Mitchell

NORMAN — Pastor Randy E. Mitchell, 62, of Norman, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, in Norman. He was born March 17, 1952, in Guymon to George Curtis and Cecile (Stewart) Mitchell.

Randy received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1979 and a master’s degree in divinity with a focus on religious education from Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992. He married Sheryl Mitchell on Nov. 19, 1976. He worked as a youth pastor, a Norman police officer and, while at seminary, he was a security officer. He served as an associate pastor at Galena Park First Baptist Church and, over 17 years, as senior pastor at Blair First Baptist Church. He was lovingly known to his congregation as Bro. Randy. He was a guitar-playing, Mustang-driving, rocking reverend. Most of all, he loved sharing the gospel. He will be remembered by his family for being the glue that held their family together.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Randy is survived by his wife, Sheryl Mitchell; his son, Michael Mitchell and his wife Heather; his three daughters, Randa Mitchell, Christi McGahan and her husband Micah and Lindsay Mitchell; his brother, Gary Mitchell of Stillwater; and his grandson, Clint McGahan.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, 211 W. Comanche St. in Norman, with the Rev. Cody Wells officiating, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.

Memorials may be made in memory of Randy Mitchell to Water4 at water4.org and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at netcommunity.imb.org.

Arrangements for Randy and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.

Online condolences may be shared at HavenbrookFuneralHome.com.
