Carl Edward Browning Jr.

NORMAN — Carl Edward Browning Jr., 83, formerly of Norman, died peacefully at his home Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013.

Carl was a retired Navy deep sea salvage diver who served in both Korea and Vietnam. In 1973, he was hired into the Electric Shop at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash., where he retired as a foreman of Shop 51 in 1985. He couldn’t stay away from ships and the sea, it seemed, so he joined a few former work mates and went to work for a contractor traveling around the world inspecting and repairing shipboard ventilation systems for the Navy.

He is survived by his bride, Gayle (Clifton) Browning; children Carla René Martin (husband Ted) of Tecumseh and Carl E. Browning III (wife Shawn) of Virginia Beach, Va.; his brothers Richard (wife Marla) of Quenemo, Kan., and James (wife Frankie) of Bremerton, Wash.; three grandchildren, Coddi Martin, Steven Browning and Nicholas Browning, one great-grandchild, Lillie Floyd; and mother-in-law, G. A. Clifton of Tulsa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carl’s honor to Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
