NORMAN — Loyd Norman Green, 79, longtime resident of Noble, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, after an extended illness.
Loyd was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Hugo to John Samuel and Ethel Nevada Willey Green. There, he grew up and attended Hugo public schools.
In 1953, Loyd joined the U.S. Army, where he served his country for two years. Upon leaving the Army, he lived for a short time in Odessa, Texas, where he met Jean Lee. Loyd and Jean married on Oct. 1, 1956, and moved to Noble, where they made their home. Loyd and Jean had three children, Lee Ann, Lisa Michelle and Lynn Norman.
Loyd was very active in the community and had the position of president on the Noble Board of Education for many years. Loyd and Jean were founding members of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
On March 13, 1981, Loyd married Carol Alinger, widow and mother of 10.
After a lengthy career at FAA, he retired in 1981. Upon his retirement from FAA, he worked for Eckerd Drugs and Gundaker Realtors.
During the next 32 years, Loyd and Carol enjoyed traveling across the United States, gardening, OU football, golf, family, friends, grandchildren and his best friend, Noodle the poodle.
Loyd along with Carol and their many children, built their own home and moved from town to East Maguire Road and established Green Acre Farms. There, they grew and sold fresh produce to local residents. After residing in the country for 19 years, it was time to move back into town.
Loyd enjoyed life to its fullest. He never met a stranger and was always ready to make you laugh with a joke — or several.
He loved his family very much and in turn was loved and respected by all.
Throughout their 32 years together, their family grew exponentially. To date, there are 11 surviving children and their spouses, 56 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Together, with parents, that is a grand total of 119.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers Lester, Oran, Willie, Ardell, J.C. and Delmar; and stepsons Ronald and Charles Alinger.
