NORMAN — Dr. Charles F. Clayton, 86, of Norman, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013.
Dr. Clayton was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Hominy to Inez and Raymond Clayton. He served in the Army from May 1945 to October 1946.
Charles married his Sterling College sweetheart, Noretta Christian, in August 1949, a union that lasted 64 years.
He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools for more than 40 years in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Dr. Clayton was also an active member of the Methodist church, where he taught Sunday school for more than 40 years as well. He served alongside many community organizations, including the chamber of commerce, American Legion, the Gideons International and Boy Scouts.
Charles is survived by his wife, Noretta Clayton; son, Charles Clayton and wife Karol; daughter, Cheryl Clayton and Mark Stanley, all of Norman; daughters Barbara Clayton of Tulsa and Janice Reel and husband Brett of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Laura Richard and husband Ross of O’Fallon, Ill., and their children Greyson and Adelaide, John Clayton and wife Carol of Olympia, Wash., and their son Asher; two sisters, Mildred Manwarren of Fayetteville, Ark., and Maybelle Hollingshead of Tulsa; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Goodrich Memorial UMC, 200 W. Hayes St.
