Joe H. Castro

NORMAN — Joe H. Castro, 73, of Newcastle, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Pleasanton, Texas, to Frank V. and Julia (Garcia) Castro.

Joe worked in public relations for OU for 31 years until his retirement and was Christian in faith. In his spare time, he enjoyed his horses, fishing and cooking barbecue. His hobby of cooking barbecue grew into a business, and he owned and operated Smokin’ Joe’s BBQ in Noble for many years.

He loved joking around with everyone he met. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that would light up a room. Joe loved his family and took great pride in raising his four children and being the best father he could be. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Herlinda Figueroa and Mary Ortega; and four brothers, Albert, Louis, Elias and Moses Castro.

Joe is survived by three daughters, Mary Anderson and her husband Terry of Edmond, Diana Rogers and her husband Willard of Yukon and Rose Johnston of Hugo, Colo.; one son, Frank Castro of Noble; five grandchildren, Ashley Page and her husband Kody of Edmond, Jay Lundy of Los Angeles, Cassie Secrest and her husband Scot of Houston, Matthew Rogers and his wife Mariela of Edmond and Briauna Castro of Noble; two great-granddaughters, Lela and Ava Page of Edmond; two sisters, Abbie Robles of Del Rio, Texas, and Rosa Castro of San Antonio; and many other loved ones and friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Joe’s caregiver, Thelma, and her family for taking such good care of him.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be hosted at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home in Blanchard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Joe’s name. An online obituary and guestbook are available at eisenhourfh.com.
