NORMAN — Robert “Kelly” McElhaney, 54, of Norman, departed this life Monday, April 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
The Rosary Service will be 5:30 p.m. today followed by the Wake Service at 6 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 100 E. Stinson St. in Norman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Norman.
The McElhaney family received friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. in Norman. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Kelly was born Jan. 30, 1959, in Norman to parents J.D. and Jeannie (O’Neal) McElhaney. After graduation from Norman High School in 1977 he attend the University of Oklahoma and earned Bachelor of Science degrees in petroleum engineering (1982) and computer science engineering (1984). Kelly was most recently employed by Devon Energy Corp. and had worked in the oil industry for more than 25 years.
During his time at OU, he was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Kelly’s love for OU was truly life-long and he had been a football season ticket holder since he was 13 years old. He also enjoyed golfing and attending Oklahoma City Thunder games.
Though he had a deep love for sports, there was no question that his deepest passion was for his family. He loved traveling and taking his family on vacations. He particularly enjoyed their trips to England and Ireland to visit Cindy's family. Whatever his children’s interests were, he was always involved to help them succeed, whether it was helping with school work or coaching athletic teams. Kelly also was very active in his parish and in the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas More.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, David Gene.
