NORMAN — William C. Smith Sr., 82, passed away and is now taking steps to heaven Monday, Sept. 2, 2013. William was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Annapolis, Md., to William Webster Sr. and Caroline Addison.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Air National Guard, including serving in the Korean conflict, and was a dedicated veteran.
William enjoyed church and reading his Bible, all types of OU sporting events, fishing and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Smith (Sylvester); and his wife, Joan.
Survivors include children Williams Chester Smith Jr. and wife Melissa, Yolanda Johnson, Adrianne Smith (Stanton), Marie Smith, Joannea Mansoor and husband Lucky and Warren Keith Smith and Anne; brother, William Webster “Webby” Smith; sisters Sandra Smith Davis, Marlene Smith Wilson and Lisa Smith; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; loved ones and countless friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, 1717 W. Lindsey St. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Ft. Sill Cemetery in Elgin.
Arrangements for William and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
