NORMAN — Sidney Leon Lutts, 74, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. He was born Aug. 14, 1939, to John E. Lutts and Virtie Clark in Roff. The family moved to Shawnee in 1951, where he graduated from Dale High School. He served three years in the National Guard following high school.
Sidney loved the Lord and was an ordained minister. He was pastor at Douglas Boulevard Baptist in Midwest City, Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Shawnee and First Baptist Church in Gould and filled in at numerous churches throughout Oklahoma.
Prior to his calling to the ministry, Sidney was a cross country truck driver. He loved to play the guitar and sing about the Lord and was a member of the gospel group the Singing Smith Family for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Lutts; mother, Virtie Lutts; sisters Irene Peters and Josephine Blount; and son, Russell Lutts.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Sherry Cook and husband Gerald of Ardmore and Glenda Yandell and husband Scott of Lexington; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Conley and husband Delbert of Shawnee; and numerous other relatives and many dear friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Alameda Baptist Church, 1503 Alameda St. in Norman, with interment following at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
Visitation will be today through Sunday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Arrangements for Sidney and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
