NORMAN — James Chancelor “Chance” Toles passed from this life Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in Bethany while finishing a 100-mile bike ride as part of Spin Your Wheels, an annual charity event raising money for The Children’s Center in Bethany.
Chance was born on July 6, 1977, in Ripley to proud parents James and René Toles. He was an avid athlete, growing up playing basketball, baseball and running cross country for Ripley High School, where he graduated with the class of 1995. That same year, the Lord called Chance to become a child of His, and he was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn at the Colorado church camp meetings.
After high school, he attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, where he met his best friend and future wife, Raynee Moody. They were united in marriage on May 15, 1999, in Purcell. Chance and Raynee were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Pasley Raynee Toles, on Oct. 3, 2003, and from that day forward, their lives would never be the same.
Chance was kindhearted, thoughtful and a generous person. He truly gave from the heart and showed it by giving the most precious thing he had: his time. He could often be found coaching little league baseball or working with the SaBaR Youth Triathlon Team. He loved to do triathlons and restore his 1966 Mustang.
One thing that made Chance so special was he didn’t do these things alone; many of his life’s accomplishments were shared right alongside his wife and daughter. He loved to watch Pasley grow up, and when she became older, he took great pleasure in seeing her race and swim.
Chance was persistent, and his perseverance drove him to complete numerous triathlons, marathons and even his first full Ironman race in 2012. He was training for the Ironman Tahoe, where he was a member of the “Tahoe Dream Team.”
