NORMAN — Alice Ann Ilgenfritz, 94, of Norman, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at home in Norman. She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Nesquehoning, Pa. She was the sixth of seven children born to James and Mary Mulligan.
Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Alice graduated from Nesquehoning High School in 1936. In 1940, she married William Branch, who died in 1964. In 1966, Alice married James Ilgenfritz, of Carlisle, Pa. At Carlisle, Alice worked for 20 years as manager of the drapery department at Early’s department store.
She was an avid reader of English literature, including all of the novels of her favorite author, Anthony Trollope. For many years, she regularly participated in evening literature studies at Dickinson College.
In 2005, Alice and James moved to Norman, where she became an ardent OU sports fan.
Alice is survived by her husband, James; son, David Branch and his wife Sheila of Norman; son, William Branch Jr. and his wife Leslie of Wilmington, N.C.; granddaughter, Alissa Branch Millar of Norman and her sons Samual and Sawyer; granddaughter, Erin Branch of Chapel Hill, N.C., and her husband Lucas Brun and their daughter Audrey Alice; grandson, Alexander Branch of Fort Worth, Texas, and his wife Sarah Bahari and their son Aidan; grandson, James Branch of Wilmington and his daughter Sadie; and many other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Steven Lindsey and the staffs of Norman Regional Hospital, Brookhaven Extensive Care and Lifecare Oklahoma for their compassionate care of Alice during her illness.
