NORMAN — Richard was called to his heavenly home Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, just a few days shy of his 64th birthday. The youngest son of Pleas Shobert and Annie Kirby Shobert Sloane, he was born in Purcell, raised in Noble and resided in the area all his life.
Richard was a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather, beloved brother, cherished uncle and loyal friend — a genuinely kind man with a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed greatly. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing with his sons and grandson, and would help anyone at any time, no matter the need.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melton; sister, Norma Jean Johnson; stepmother, Estelee; stepbrother, Donald Witt; sister-in-law, Carolyn; and brother-in-law, Lee Morris.
He is survived by a wife, Phyllis of Norman; his children Richard Jr. and wife Karen and their children Richard III (Trey), Hannah and Timothy of Noble, Michael of Kingfisher, Julie Burkett and husband Mike and their children Joshua, Wyatt and Austin of Wanette, and Daniel of Midwest City; and their mother, Esther Keeney Porter; his brothers Calvin and wife Charlotte of Okemah, Wayne Shobert Sr. of Noble and Thomas and wife Kay of Moore; his sisters Nelda Morris of Walters and Lucille Edwards and her husband Bill of Anadarko; stepson, Ronald Moore and his children Alan, Alex and Nick of the home; 16 nieces, nephews and their spouses; 20 great-nieces, nephews and their spouses; seven great-grandchildren; an uncle; and many cousins, extended family and friends.
He was laid to rest Tuesday at Sunset Cemetery in Norman.
All arrangements were under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Full Circle Senior Daycare in Norman.
Pop, you are forever in our hearts.
