NORMAN — Rosa Lee (Meyer) Lewis was born Feb. 19, 1934, to Roy Joseph and Laura Ann (Brockhaus) Meyer in Norman. She passed from this life Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.
Rosa, along with her six brothers and sisters, grew up on the west side of Norman on a farm by the river. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in 1953.
She met the love of her life, Ted Lewis, while she was living in Amarillo, Texas. They were married Nov. 24, 1961, in Clayton, N.M.
Rosa and Ted moved to Norman with their young son, Dane, and began the remainder of their life’s journey. Rosa worked many years for Agar-Ford Insurance Agency and then began her career with Hartford Insurance, which was located at the First State Bank in Noble. She recently retired due to failing health.
She was a participant at the Senior Citizens Program in Norman after her husband passed away, enjoying aerobics, yoga and line dancing. Two of her “fun” jobs were volunteering at Norman Regional Hospital and working with the Cleveland County Election Board as a precinct worker during elections.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Al and Ray Meyer; and sisters Betty Tigart, Millie Meyer and Laura Holman.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas Brown of St. Louis and Dane and wife Sherri Lewis of Norman; grandchildren Paige Brown of St. Louis and Clayton and Jacob Lewis of Norman; one brother and his wife, James and Clair Meyer, and one sister-in-law, Mary Meyer, all of Norman; her longtime companion, Bill Ashcraft; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and Rivermont and staff who have taken excellent care of Rosa for the last several months.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
Directed by McMahans Funeral Home in Noble.
