Dudgeon B. 'Dud' Giezentanner

Dudgeon B. "Dud" Giezentanner, 92, died Monday, Nov. 6, in Norman.

The youngest of five children, he was born April 6, 1914, to Felix Henry Giezentanner and Flora Myrtle Lusk in Cushing. He grew up in Drumright and graduated from Drumright High School in 1932. He and Veda Mae Brown met at OU where she was registering for classes and he was working helping students with the fee payment process. After a short courtship, they were married July 3, 1941. They have celebrated more than 65 years of marriage.

Mr. Giezentanner graduated in 1938 from OU, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration. The family spent two years in Illinois where he received his master's degree in accounting in 1948 from the University of Illinois. He retired in 1973 from the University of Oklahoma after 36 years of employment. He held a variety of positions, including accountant, chief accountant, internal auditor, assistant business manager, business manager and budget director. He was named budget director emeritus in 1974. His co-workers remember him for his patience, affability and sound judgment.

Other professional organizations and memberships include president of the Southern Association of College -- University Business Officers, board of directors of the National Association of College -- Business Officers, board of Norman Municipal Hospital, and the boards of the Oklahoma Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association Welfare Commission.

Mr. Giezentanner served in the National Guard until he entered college, where he was in the R.O.T.C. program at OU and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. He then moved on to the Army Reserves. He served four years and four months active duty at Fort Sill, and in Georgia. He received overseas orders during the war four times, but was never sent overseas before he retired in 1964, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Giezentanner was a member of Norman First Christian Church, a member of DeMolay, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
