Lloyd Edward Skipper

Lloyd Edward Skipper, 70 of Purcell, died Friday, July 20, at his home in Purcell.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Officiating will be the Rev. John Smith, with memories shared by Ralph Castle. Burial will be in Washington.

He was born April 30, 1937, in Wellington, Texas, one of five children born to Charles Herman Skipper and Jessie Evalee Houston Skipper. He grew up and attended school in McClean, Texas. In 1959 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years overseas. While in the military, Lloyd met Mary Katherine Castle. On Dec. 3, 1962, four days after he was honorably discharged, Mary and he were united in marriage in Upper Marlboro, Md. The couple reared four children and lived in the Washington-Purcell communities since 1967.?

He started his own trucking business in 1976 and operated it until 1989. After retiring from trucking he worked for the Oklahoma State Forestry Department for nearly five years and kept busy doing various jobs and hobbies. He enjoyed working on his small farm near Washington and spending time with his family. For the past seven years he was a member of the Sanctuary Church in Lexington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie Skipper.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Skipper of the home in Purcell; three sons and one daughter, David Castle of Noble, Ralph Castle and wife Gina of Columbia, Md., James David Skipper and wife Pam of Midway, Ky., and Amy Bryen and husband Jim of Lexington; seven grandchildren, James, Joseph, Jimi-Len, Jacob, Tricia, Trevor and Tanner; one great-grandson, Micah; three brothers, Billy Joe Skipper and wife Betty of McLean, Texas; Floyd Skipper and wife Nancy of McLean, and Charles Henry Skipper of Sublett, Kan.; one sister, Sandra Charlene Patton and husband Charles of Amarillo, Texas; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.

Bearers will be Joseph, James and Jacob Bryen, Trevor Skipper, Steve Vaughn and Tim Pevarnik. Honorary bearers are Walter Mote, Stan Delaney, Mack Deney, Darrel Pratt, Lindel Steele, Orville Hendrix, Jimi-Len, Tanner Skipper and Tricia Sartori.
