Etta Auguleen Moody Bryant

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Auguleen Bryant, 97, entered Heaven’s gates Nov. 18, 2012. She was born in Fayette, Ala., on Feb. 21, 1915, to Osie Dell (Sims) and Edward Jahue Sullivan.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Primrose Funeral Service chapel in Norman, with burial at Norman IOOF Cemetery.

Her family settled in the Slaughterville/Lexington area in 1926 and she became an Okie. On a sunny Sunday afternoon in Slaughterville, Auguleen met her first husband, Howard Lee Moody. They were married Sept. 8, 1934. They lived and worked at McFarlin Methodist Church from 1936 to 1943. WWII came and she followed Howard to different Army bases while he served his country. After 20 years of marriage and at age 39, she experienced, as she called it “going through the change,” the birth of her only child, James “Jim” Edward Moody.

Auguleen began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1944 as a telephone operator. For 27 years, she was on the other end of the line asking, “Number please.” She was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America. After a short period of retirement together and 38 years of marriage, Howard passed away.

Family was her passion, and in 1981, she extended her family when she married Luther Bryant. Their marriage made two families one. They loved to travel and crossed the United States from coast to coast. A keepsake Atlas highlights the roads traveled and provided many great times for reminiscing.

Auguleen had an unwavering faith in God. She and Luther were longtime members of Bethel Baptist Church, where they were active until her health no longer allowed her to attend.

There was nothing Auguleen loved more than time with her family. She always looked forward to the annual Moody reunion in Gainesville, Texas, her birthday parties and visits with family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. OU sports were a close second and an enthusiasm she shared with her son. The legacy of Auguleen’s zest for life and love of family will live on through her family.

She is survived by her husband, Luther; son, Jim Moody (Kathy); stepsons Mark Bryant (Sue) and Greg Bryant (Lori); grandchildren Jennifer Bryan (Bradley), Jeff Moody (Lindsey), Ginger Boles, Jeff Bryant (Megan), Lori Fulce (Josh) and Tony Bryant (Chelsea); and great-grandchildren Gracey, Andey, Tatum and Porter Bryan, Zoe and Caitlin Boles, Dax Peterson and Ashton and Collin Fulce. She leaves many nieces and nephews who she loved so much.

The family wishes to thank Loving Care Home Health and Hospice in Noble and her special caregiver, Lela Vogle. Your love and gentle touch provided great comfort for her and for us.

Our joys will be greater, our love will be deeper, our lives will be fuller because we shared your life.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service.
