NORMAN — On Nov. 26, 2012, retired Army Col. Leroy Cosby Land joined his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie E. Land.

A memorial service for the family will be planned in Las Vegas in early March 2013.

He was born in Riverton, Utah, on March 5, 1917. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) before marrying Marjorie E. Davis.

Leroy and Marge spent more than 30 years traveling with the U.S. Army in the United States and Europe. He distinguished himself during combat tours in three wars, World War II in Europe, Korean War and Vietnam War. He received his Master of Science and Master of Mechanical Engineering degrees from California Institute of Technology.

He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964 in Arlington, Va., and served in many capacities over the years.

After his retirement in 1972, the couple moved to Norman and spent 37 years there. Leroy was active in the church as well as in his community. He was one of the founders of the local ACE Home Improvement stores in Norman, Purcell and Blanchard,.

In 2007, Leroy and Marge moved to Las Vegas to be near their son, Edward, and his family.

Leroy published his life’s reminiscences and gave a copy to each of the children. It tracks his life chronology and observations for more than 90 years, an epic period in U.S. history.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Leroy is survived by his daughter, Mary Linda and husband Jack Norman, his son Edward C. and wife Ann Marie Land and his daughter Susan K. Land; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers or cards, contributions to your local veterans’ home in his name will be greatly appreciated.
