Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Primrose Funeral Service.

Helen was born May 24, 1911, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Ed and Mary (Ball) Norton. She was raised on a farm along with one brother, Woodrow, and two sisters, Hazel and Juanita. After completing high school, Helen went to Stephenville, Texas, with her sister, Hazel, and they both graduated from Tarleton State University in 1930 with a social sciences (teaching) degree.

Helen met Ivey Ellis Haralson and they married on Nov. 22, 1934. As a result of this union, four sons were welcomed in to the family: Kenneth Ellis, Dale Edward, Gary Glen and Gerald “Pete” Weldon.

They lived in Texas and California before moving to Norman, where they made their permanent, life-long home. Always pursing her education, while in California, Helen attained a degree in cosmetology.

With her family partially raised but four sons still home, Helen returned to school. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy on May 31, 1964. Helen’s Employers include Ray’s Walgreen Drug and Liberty Drugstore. She retired from the State of Oklahoma as director of pharmacy at Central State Hospital in Norman.

Helen is a longtime member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church but has attended Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church and St. Stephens United Methodist Church for the past several years.

Helen continued to impart upon her friends and family her beauty, wit, wisdom, natural remedies, coping skills and common sense. All visitors were welcomed into her home and served a cup of coffee and surrounded with her limitless love. Helen keeps the pioneer spirit alive, living her life in a manner that earns her the respect, high esteem and admiration of her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gerald; two sisters; one brother and one great-grandchild.

Helen is survived by her three sons, 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
