Loene Webb

NORMAN — Loene Webb, 81, of Noble, peacefully departed this earth Sunday morning, Dec. 8, 2013.

Loene was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Checotah to Ethelwyn Thomas and Willie Johnson. She attended school in Onapa and later received her GED from Noble High School.

While working in a restaurant in Elk City, Loene met Ernest (Red) Webb, and they married April 23, 1949, in Wheeler, Texas. They resided in Elk City and Norman before moving to their acreage in Noble, where they spent the last 37 years of their almost 65-year marriage. They built a happy life together based on their strong faith and devotion to each other.

Loene worked for more than 20 years at Safeway, first as a meat wrapper, then checking groceries and eventually as the office manager prior to her medical retirement in 1984. She taught Sunday School for 40 years, went to Falls Creek as a volunteer with the youth group a few times and almost always worked in the church kitchen.

She took painting classes at the vo-tech and filled her family’s homes with her beautiful oil paintings. She was a member of the Friendship Club of the Cleveland County Extension office since 1992. She won Best of Show in the Cleveland County Fair on more than one occasion and countless blue ribbons on her paintings, canning, crewel embroidery, sewing and cooking on behalf of her Friendship Club and on individual entries.

She worked unbelievably long hours planting, tending, harvesting and putting up the bounty of their garden. They had to grow enough for all the family — both immediate and extended. She delighted in cooking for others; it was her way of showing how much she cared. People would stand in line for 45 minutes at the county fair in order to get one of her apricot fried pies. She’s been known to spend all day making pies for the ones she loved so much.
