NORMAN — Mary Clarke Miley, 98, died Sunday, April 14, 2013. Mary was born in Oklahoma City to Tirzah Beauchamp Clarke and Ernest Woodson Clarke.
She marked WIlliam Halliburton Miley in 1937. Mrs. Miley, a gifted pianist, studied at the Kansas Conservatory of Music. She taught piano in Oklahoma City, Washington, D.C., and New York City.
In 1982, Mary established 11 scholarships at the University of Oklahoma for American Indian and African American fine arts students.
Mary was instrumental in the publication of te D’Indy. She worked with Dr. Merle Montgomery in the National Federation of Music Clubs, National Music Council for the benefit of young musicians.
Memorial gifts may be made to help continue the Mary Miley fine arts scholarships at OU by gifting through the University of Oklahoma Foundation.
