Jim Botkin

NORMAN — Jim Botkin passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, following an extended illness. He joins his recently departed wife, Marne Harveland-Botkin.

Memorial services are pending.

Jim served in the Marine Corps and had a variety of jobs, including a position at the FAA.

Jim was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. He was active in both the First Unitarian Church in Oklahoma City and the Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Jim enjoyed a wide circle of friends, from the liberal NPR listeners to his football buddies. His dry wit and intelligent sense of humor were amazing. He could hold forth on any topic.

Jim was a superb vegetarian cook and shared the bounty of his wok with many admirers.

Jim was a devoted father to his three children, mentoring them from early years into adulthood. He was also a devoted husband to his wife, Marne. Together they home-schooled all three kids and participated in many church and community events.

Jim is survived by his daughters Clarity and Gracie Botkin and son, Noah Botkin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Food and Shelter and Second Chance Animal Sanctuary.
