Marjorie Ama Black Roane

NORMAN — Marjorie Ama Black Roane, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 22, 2013, in her home in Norman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Norman, with internment following at IOOF Cemetery in Norman.

She was born to the late Amos and Marie Black on Oct. 24, 1939, in Pawnee. Marjorie graduated from Cushing High School in 1958, attended Oklahoma State University and received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minn., in 1985. She married the late Samuel Roane in 1959, and they lived together in Lakeville, Minn., before returning home to reside in Norman in 2000. She was very dedicated to her family, especially her son, Samuel, and granddaughter, Iris.

Marjorie practiced law in both Minnesota and Oklahoma for more than 25 years. She was an active member of the Sac and Fox Nation, serving on many positions, including being the chairperson of the committee, which constructed a nondenominational Christian Chapel for use by the members.

She was active with numerous volunteer organizations, including serving as a trustee for the Science Museum of Minnesota, the board of directors for the Hubert Humphrey Institute, board member for the St. Paul Chapter of the Red Cross, member of the alumni boards for the William Mitchell College of Law and Metropolitan State University, board member for the Amherst Wilder Foundation and active participant in the Assistance League of Norman.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; and her parents, Amos and Marie.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Samuel Houston Roane Jr. and granddaughter Iris of Minneapolis; her brother, Amos Black III of Anadarko; sister, Mary Osborne of Ponca City; nephews David Johnson and his wife Susan, Tim Johnson, Josh Black and his wife Amy, Eli Johnson, Levi Johnson and his sons Gabriel, Elijah and Jeremiah, Robert Roane, Rhonda Roane, Gerald Spotts, Cheryl Ponder and Deborah Spotts.

Arrangements for Marjorie and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at HavenbrookFuneral Home in Norman.
