NORMAN — Verna Lucille “Lucy” Stine, of Pauls Valley, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 94.
She was born in Cleveland County on Feb. 7, 1919, to John Henry and Virgie Lee (Hankins) Thompson. Lucille married Albert Lee Stine, of Norman, on Feb. 17, 1934.
In 1952, after a period in west Texas, Albert and Lucille’s young family settled on a ranch in Pauls Valley, where they raised livestock. In that same year, Lucille began what would become a life-long and dedicated career in medical assistance, first at Pauls Valley Hospital under Dr. Ray Lindsey, then with Dr. Jim Lindsey and his local practice. With her passion for caretaking and family that extended everywhere from her kitchen and prized garden to her patients, friends and community, Lucille filled many special roles in the lives of everyone she touched, and always with a smile.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Stine; grandsons Michael Lee McConnell and John Allen Stine; her brothers Cilvin, Jim and Junior Thompson; and sisters Lila Grimes and Jewel Dodd.
Mrs. Stine is survived by two sisters, Theda Clure of California and Yvonne Pearce of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Natheline Thompson of Pauls Valley; two daughters, Carrol L. McConnell and her husband Jerry McConnell of Norman and Kay Colman-Day and husband Don Day of Oklahoma City; one son, James A. “Jim” Stine of Pauls Valley; grandsons Mark McConnell and wife Susan of Norman, Tim Colman and wife Connie of Casper, Wyo., Greg Colman of Oklahoma City and Dwayne Day of Brenda, Ariz.; granddaughters Carrie E. Levern and husband Larry Levern of Norman, Sandra E. Brickman and Jamie Brickman of Norman, Karla Summers of Springfield, Mo.; great-grandsons Jeremy McConnell, Thompson Stine, Jordan and Jacob Colman, Miles Turner McConnell, Derek Mason, Gene McCrimmon and Donnie Summers; great-granddaughters Lindsay McConnell, Erin, Madison and Jordan Brickman, Seba and Libby Stine, Katie Day and Geriann Day Carroll; and great-great-grandchildren Baylee, Brayden, Addie, Kyla, Cameron and Brennen.
The family requests that memorials in Lucille’s name be sent to the Walker Volunteer Fire Department, 18059 N. County Road 3330, Stratford, OK 74872.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance, officiated by the Rev. Orville Cottrell.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
