Sally Jean Murnan Conway

NORMAN — Sally Jean Murnan Conway, 72, of Mesquite, Texas, departed this life May 4, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Norman, the youngest of four children, to Jessie Edna (Dodd) and Troy Grant Murnan.

Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Troy and wife Jane, brother Kenneth and wife Margaret, and sister Shirley Beller and husband Calvin. Survived by her beloved husband of 27 years Donald Conway of the home, originally of Cheyenne, Okla.; son Garry Charley and wife Shirley of Norman; daughter Susie Powell of Addison, Texas; grandchildren Matthew and Michael Charley and Vicky Martin; great-grandchildren Austin and Teagan, and by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sally worked for many years at Griffin State Hospital and the Union Bus Station in Norman. After moving to Texas she was proud to be one of the first female ticket agents at Continental Trailways in Dallas before going to work at Western Electric in Mesquite. She was working as a jailer for the Dallas County Sheriff’s department when illness forced her retirement. Like her mother, Sally had a green thumb and loved to grow things. She and Don’s house and yard were full of plants. She loved her backyard roses and feeding all the little birds that came to visit.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the Sparkman/Crane Chapel with interment at 1 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery.
