Lois Berniece Brannon

NORMAN — Lois Berniece (Ozment) Brannon, 87, of Norman, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with COPD.

Mass of Christian burial will be noon today at St. Charles Borromeo chapel in the St. Joseph Parish Family Life Center, with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Purcell to Fred N. Ozment and Lina J. (Lawrence) Ozment. She was a 1943 graduate of Purcell High School. From 1964 until her retirement in 1980, she worked with the American-First Abstract Company of Norman. In 1938, she met John W. Ross, of Norman, and they were married in July 1943 during World War II, while he was in the U.S. Navy. When he returned in 1948, they lived in Purcell, where their children were born, and then moved to Norman in 1949. They were married 29 years until his passing in 1972. They had three children, Toni Anne, Terry Bruce and John Mark.

She married Jack Brannon in 1973 and they were married for 35 years until his passing in 2008. They spent many happy years in the home they built east of Lake Thunderbird.

Berniece was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman for many years and later, after moving into eastern Cleveland County, was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Harrah. She was a devout and observant Roman Catholic her entire life. She enjoyed gardening and living in the country in her later years. She loved and cared for many cats.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands; one son, Terry Bruce Ross in 1978; one grandson, Timothy J. Clark in 1970; her parents; and her brother, Lt. Col. Fred N. Ozment Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Toni Anne Johnson and husband Dr. Peter Johnson of Norman and their children Andrea Tane Clark of Tempe, Ariz., and John Kasey Clark of Norman; son, John Mark Ross of Purcell; sister-in-law, Maria Camille Ozment and nephew Grant Ozment of Norman; and Jack’s daughters LaDonna Curry and husband Lavern, Betty Purtell, Jackie Volpe and Leisa Bennett and husband Bob. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested Second Chance Animal Sanctuary as appropriated for memorial contributions because of her love for cats, dogs and all animals.

Services for Berniece have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service.
