NORMAN — Lester Stephen “Steve” Penwell, 75, of Blanchard, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Norman. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Primrose Chapel.
He was born April 23, 1938, to Lester Woodrow and Lola Mae (Shepard) Penwell in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He married Bonnie Lee Jolley on Dec. 11, 1960, in the Chapel of the Pines on Turner AFB in Albany, Ga. They were married for 52 glorious years.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. His term lasted 27 years and he obtained the rank of E-8, Senior Master Sergeant (SMSGT).
Steve was a naturalist at heart. He enjoyed his flower garden and liked to fish. He was a grill master, enjoyed country music and took great pride in everything he did. Steve loved all animals. He enjoyed life, having fun and laughing.
He lived life to the fullest and was an avid football fan. Cheering on his West Virginia Mountaineers was a favorite pastime.
Everyone always felt better for having known Steve. He never met a stranger. His family always came first; he adored his wife and daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; his two daughters, Kimberly “Kimmie” Penwell of Blanchard, Jennifer Penwell and her husband James Cameron of Moore; grandsons, Stephen Sean Penwell and his wife Brandy of Midwest City and Tereance A. James of Moore; his granddaughter, Raeanne Norris of Boulder, Colo.; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Phillips, Joyce Youngblood and Judith McBee; his brothers, Ronald L Penwell and Richard L. Penwell; a large extended family to include, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; and his beloved pets, Blossom, Honey “Lil’ Girl,” Moose and Tater.
His parents preceded him in death.
