NORMAN — Joy Constantikes, 71, of McAlester, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Joy was born June 3, 1942, to Samuel Joseph and Helen (Mouid) Jordan in Worcester, Mass. She was raised and attended school in Shrewsbury, Mass. After graduation and college, she lived and worked in New York and California before moving to Oklahoma, where she met John Constantikes. The two were married Oct. 1, 1976, in Oklahoma City.
Joy enjoyed baking and cooking, crafts, reading, teaching and many other activities. She was the owner of Mrs. Santa’s Kitchen, which she started in Norman and continued when she moved to McAlester in 1987, eventually closing this business in 2006 when her health began to fail. She was a woman of strong faith and compassion, a friend and encourager to many. Her fondest memories were the happy times she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, George and Caroline Constantikes; her brother, Kenneth Jordan; and her brother-in-law, James Constantikes.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Leanora and Joe Baker of Frisco, Texas, and their children Andrew and Brittney; daughter, Toffie and Josh Hinds of Norman and their children Marie, Anna, Destiny, Tristan and Sam; son, Paul Constantikes of Oklahoma City and his children Jackson, Daniel, Kyle and Ethan; son, Eryc Constantikes of Clarkesville, Tenn., and his children Myrykle, Erycia and Eryc Jr.; brothers Paul Jordan of Cherry Valley, N.Y., and Garrico Giordano of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives who will miss her greatly.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Family Worship Center in McAlester.
A remembrance celebration will be 1 p.m. Saturday at 100 Wilderness Drive in Norman.
