Lawrence ‘Larry’ Dean Fisher

NORMAN — Lawrence “Larry” Dean Fisher, 73, of Norman, passed away at his home Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. Larry was born on Aug. 24, 1940, in Sand Springs to parents Connie and Leta Fisher.

He attended elementary and high school in Sand Springs where he began an enjoyment and love for playing piano and football for the Sandites.

After graduating high school he attended Oklahoma State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.

During his time at OSU he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Command and Delta Chi fraternity.

Larry received an honorable discharge from active duty in the Unites States Army Reserve in 1965 and an honorable discharge from the United States Army Standby Reserve in 1978. During his service he achieved the rank of captain and was assigned to the Chemical Corps.

Larry earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma.

He completed all work required for a doctoral degree except dissertation. He worked as an instructor and director in the College of Business Administration at the University of Oklahoma before starting his own company, Creative Consultants.

In 1984, Larry began working for the State of Oklahoma Human Resources Development Services Office of Personnel Management as assistant administrator where he stayed until retiring in 2002. During his time at the state of Oklahoma, Larry served as transportation team leader on the 1995 Governor’s Commission on Government Performance. He was appointed to the position by Governor Frank Keating.

Larry served as a board member of the central Oklahoma chapter, American Society for Training and Development and president in 1994.

Larry served as the 1990-91 president, National Association of Government Training and Development Directors.

In retirement Larry continued to teach management education courses through Creative Consultants. In 2002 Larry was selected as one of three national “awesome bosses” by Tom Terez’s Meaningful Workplace website.
