NORMAN — Carol Ann Azimi, 61, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at her home in Norman. She was born Jan. 18, 1952, in Danbury, Conn., to Mary and Paul LaCava.

Carol attended Quinnipiac and Georgetown University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy. While taking national certification exams at Columbia in New York City, Carol caught the eye of Mehdi Azimi. Coincidentally, the two shared plans of attending the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where Carol received her master’s degree in speech pathology.

A self-proclaimed advocate for the “underdog,” Carol’s love for others and selflessness was demonstrated by her more than 25 years of work with multi-handicapped children. She has served as director of Child Study Center, speech pathologist at Easter Seals and numerous years as a private practice speech pathologist.

Carol was an avid Norman High School volunteer, continuing her position long after her children had graduated. She served as the event coordinator for Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association for nearly 20 years, bringing holiday celebrations to children and families undergoing treatment.

She will be remembered by family and friends for her ability to see the good in all people, her endless patience and her unconditional love.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents.

Carol is survived by her husband, Mehdi; sons Jian and Bijan; and daughter, Ariana.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Merrill for his dedication and extraordinary services he provided during this time.

Any donations should be made on behalf of Carol Azimi to the Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association (OCCA), P.O. Box 96292, Oklahoma City, OK 73143.
