NORMAN — Nancy Jeanette Toles Matthews, of Norman, passed away at Norman Regional Hospital on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, just one month shy of her 95th birthday. Born in Anderson, Ind., in 1918, she was the 11th of 13 children born to Charles Franklin and Nellie Bly Toles.
Nancy graduated from Anderson High School in 1936 and married Ralph Norman Matthews in 1940. She was a consummate homemaker, a community volunteer, an avid golfer and a devoted wife and loving mother to their only child, Jill.
Ralph and Nancy lived in Anderson until moving to Innisbrook, a golf resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla., in the early ’80s, where they enjoyed many rounds of golf and an active social life. Ralph died in 2003, at which time Nancy moved to Norman to be with her daughter.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her husband, Ralph.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill LeVan and husband George of Norman; granddaughter, Jennifer Koskela and her husband Matthew of Lenexa, Kan.; grandsons Scott Johnson of Norman and Kurt Johnson of Winnemucca, Nev.; and her great-grandchildren Lainey and Lila Koskela and Ryder Johnson. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Nancy will be laid to rest next to Ralph, her husband of 63 years, in Florida.
Arrangements for Nancy and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
