Karl Dean Moyer

NORMAN — A celebration of life, honoring the well-lived life of Karl Dean Moyer, 56, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Journey Church, Interstate 35 and Tecumseh Road in Norman.

Rod Conant and Dr. Mike Butler will officiate, and Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is handling the services. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

A visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Moyer died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, after a brief but courageous month long battle with leukemia and pneumonia and complications from an infection. He was born Dec. 18, 1956, in Duncan, to Bill and Madelyn Moyer.

After moving to Norman, Karl met the woman he would share his life with, Terri (Swim) Moyer, and they were married for 33 years. They were high school sweethearts and were married June 7, 1980. They grew up in the same church, Immanuel Baptist of Norman, and lived on the same block.

To this union, two daughters, Kari and Staci, were born, and they were lights in their dad’s life. Karl was known around this area as an outstanding youth softball and basketball coach, and his daughters shared his love for the game. His passion for coaching led him to work with youth teams for a number of years.

Moyer worked for General Motors at the Oklahoma City plant, then retired after 26 years of service. He was employed as an apprentice electrician at the University of Oklahoma Facilities Management department at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn Moyer; and nephew, Shawn Reynolds.

Surviving Karl and celebrating his life are his wife, Terri; daughters Kari and Staci; his father, Bill Moyer; his sister, Vicky and husband Mike Reynolds of Moore; his sisters-in-law Debbie and Todd Wilkinson, Lori and Terry Kelleher and Sandy and Steve Kline of Norman; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations for medical and funeral expenses be sent to the Karl Moyer Memorial Fund at the Tinker Credit Union. Cards and notes may be sent to the family in care of Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman, OK 73072.
