NORMAN — Mary ‘Louise’ (Kingsbury) Kay passed away on November 9, 2013 in Noble, OK. Louise was born to George and Marjorie Kingsbury on August 2, 1926 in Springfield, MA. At the age of 16, Louise graduated high school and worked as a long distance operator and at Springfield Armory before entering nursing school at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, MA. She graduated from nursing school receiving her RN degree in September 1947. In 1950, Louise decided to join the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Nellis AFB in Nevada.
While she was at Nellis, she met her future husband, James Robert (Jim) Kay, and they were married in the base chapel on August 16, 1952. Louise and Jim moved to Oklahoma, and in December 1952 Louise was honorably discharged from the Air Force. While Jim was attending OU Medical School, Louise worked at Tinker AFB Hospital.
After Jim graduated from medical school they raised a family, living in Oklahoma and Kansas, finally settling in Norman. When Jim passed away she tried her hand at real estate before returning to her true calling, nursing. She worked at the Norman Veterans Center and eventually rose to Director of Nursing. Louise loved to travel and after retiring she visited Israel, Italy, Scotland, Ireland and England. She was a very active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she made countless wonderful friends. She also participated in numerous civic groups and charities including St. Vincent De Paul Society, Girl Scouts and Health for Friends. Always staying busy, she owned and operated the House of Glaze ceramic shop for several years. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Grace and brother Mac. She is survived by her children, Paul, Kathy, Don and Karen, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Primrose Funeral Service. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at St. Thomas More University Parish with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
