NORMAN — George Donald Moore, 81, died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Countryside Nursing Home in Pilot Point, Texas. He was born in Oklahoma City on Nov. 12, 1931, to Fred C. Moore and Myrtle L. (Brown) Moore.
George graduated from Central High School in 1949. He then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After graduating from Central State College in Edmond in August 1954, he began a 30-year career in banking, including Liberty National Bank in Oklahoma City, First National Bank in Tulsa and First National Bank in Norman. He then worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Education until he retired to Texas with his wife Shirley, whom he married on July 30, 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Fred C. Moore Jr. and Hazel Haynes.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley P. Moore of Corinth, Texas; and three children from his marriage to Mary Ann (Richardson) Moore, son, Don and his wife Debbie Moore of Flower Mound, Texas, and daughters Kellye Cloud of Choctaw and Laura Rogers of Lafayette, Ind. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jenny and Chris Moore, Lauren Chambers Holmes and her husband Catlin Holmes, Stacie Chambers, Aspen and Allie Rogers; great-grandchild, Gracie Holmes; stepchildren Buzz Noah of Mexico City, Eric and his wife Marsha Noah of Moore and Oleeta and her husband James Boswell of Tulsa; and step-grandchildren, Miles, Kirsten and Dakota Noah, Elizabeth, Emily, Erica, Evangeline and Chad Noah and his wife Emily, and Noah Boswell.
George loved his family and enjoyed every minute he had to spend with them. He will be missed and remembered for his wonderful stories, songs and words of wisdom. He was a believer in education, had a love for OU football and was always the life of the party.
He will be laid to rest beside his parents at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
