Jean Marciel Fredrickson Jackman

NORMAN — Jean Marciel Fredrickson Jackman, 86, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Norman Regional Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Wellington, Kan., on Feb. 25, 1926, to Arch Andrew and Hazel (Davis) Fredrickson.

A committal service will be 2:30 p.m. today at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Kan.

She attended schools in Wellington, Kan., and then the University of Oklahoma, where she was named Outstanding Freshman Home Economics Student. She also worked as a reservationist for Braniff Airlines.

Jean attended Wayne State University and received her associate’s degree in library science after her children were grown. She then worked for the Birmingham School System in Michigan for 13 years.

During her children’s high school years, Jean worked with the American Foreign Exchange Students program, hosting two foreign exchange students, Alberto Plata and Barbara Kind.

Jean and Lloyd retired back to Norman in 1993. She was a member of McFarlin United Methodist Church and was active in the community until she became physically disabled.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lloyd Spencer Jackman; and her son, L. Stephen Jackman, M.D.

She is survived by a son, David Drew Jackman and his wife Carol O’Neill of Espanola, N.M.; a daughter, Melanie Diane Riker and her husband Samuel T. Riker Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Samuel Thomas Riker III and Matthew Jackman Riker and his wife Laura Riker of Memphis, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Logan Jackman Riker; and sister-in-law, Helen Maxine Permenter of Edmond.
