NORMAN — Tom Lowry Brown, 54, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at All Souls Episcopal Chapel in Oklahoma City.

He was born March 5, 1958, to Dr. C. Alton and Elizabeth Brown. After graduating from Putnam City High School in 1976, Tom went to University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. He transferred to Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in English.

Tom spent time in the retail and restaurant industries for many years. He moved to Dallas and eventually went into real estate and mortgage banking. Most recently, Tom worked in the health field, where he was known as a patient advocate and for his compassion and helpfulness.

Tom loved travel, literature, politics and people. He was passionate in his views. He was a delight to all who met him and brought joy to any gathering. Many will miss his comedic presence and distinctive laugh. He was genuine, witty, innovative and a champion to all who were oppressed.

His parents, Dr. C. Alton and Liz Brown, preceded him in death.

He leaves behind sisters Lezlie Brown of Oklahoma City and Amy Williams and husband Ron and nephew Brady Williams, all of Norman; and nephew Kyle Jones and wife Amanda and great-niece Annamarie, all of Paris, France.

Tom was very proud of the work his family was doing in rural Uganda. Memorials may be sent to BARHD to continue that work: P.O. Box 702008, Tulsa, OK 74170.
