NORMAN — Neil Shafer-Ray, 49, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in Oklahoma City.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in Havenbrook Funeral Home chapel in Norman. Arrangements are by Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Neil was born Nov. 29, 1963, in Boston to Jules Alan and Marcia (Anolik) Shafer. He married Kerry Ray Lynch on May 22, 1994, in Philadelphia.
Neil was a physics professor at the University of Oklahoma since 1995. He graduated from MIT in 1986 and received his PhD from Columbia in 1990 and then did post graduate work at Stanford before coming to the University of Oklahoma.
Besides doing physics, Neil enjoyed snow skiing, playing basketball with his boys, inventing games to include any age child, and over-engineering home improvement projects.
He is survived by his wife, Kerry Shafer-Ray of Norman; his parents, Jules and Marcia Shafer of Gwynedd Valley, Penn.; two sons, Reed Shafer-Ray and Cole Shafer-Ray, both of Norman; brother, Howard Shafer and wife Kate of West Hartford, Conn.; and sister, Toby Petti and husband Michael of Buffalo Grove, Ill.
