Ernestine (Stiles) Philpin

NORMAN — Ernestine (Stiles) Philpin died peacefully in Norman on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Primrose chapel, with interment to follow at Norman IOOF Cemetery.

She was born May 29, 1928, in Spiro to Edmond Earl Stiles and Esther (Goff) Stiles. She grew up on a farm in eastern Oklahoma with her sisters Evelyn, Lottie, Vernie and Ruby and brother, Estel.

Ernestine married John Patrick (Pat) Philpin on Aug. 31, 1953, who later passed away in August 1969. They had three children, Esther Elizabeth (Becky), Paul and John Edmond.

She worked 33 years as an RN at Griffin Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1986. Ernestine was a strong-minded, determined and independent woman. She loved gardening and her variety of pets she had throughout the years. She was a member of the Stigler Methodist Church.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Johnson; husband, Patrick; son, Paul; and daughter, Elizabeth.

She is survived by her son, John of Norman; brother, Estel of Stigler; her sisters Lottie Jarrad of Muskogee, Vernie Schooly of Chandler and Ruby Carson of Ft. Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookhaven Extensive Care and Valir Hospice, who took wonderful care of her these last few months.

Arrangements are entrusted to Primrose Funeral Service.
