The long-rumored, temporary move by the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture will bring some interesting dynamics to downtown Norman.
OU's Board of Regents is expected to approve a lease for three separate spaces in the 500 block of West Main Street. Students, faculty and staff will be relocated while Gould Hall gets a makeover.
Student classrooms and studios will be in the west side of the building that formerly housed the Hobby Lobby store. That building was originally the TG--Y Family Center.
Faculty members will be across the street in spaces that formerly were used by Mardel's and City Bites restaurant. Both of those businesses have relocated.
The temporary relocation will provide ample parking.
It's not the first time OU has had temporary quarters on Main Street. The site is just a couple of blocks from the university's first temporary classroom in the Adkins-Welch building on West Main Street. Regents rented space there for $20 a month in 1892.
