Estimates vary widely on the number of music fans that gathered in downtown Norman last month for the first Norman Music Festival.
The organizers believe about 13,000 people were here throughout the day. It got good reviews from most of those attending and plans are being made for a second event next year.
Downtown merchants will be more involved in the planning for next year's event, according to Rick Fry, executive director of the sponsoring Norman Arts Council. One suggestion we've heard: Start later in the day so retailers can still serve their regular customers before closing the street in the afternoon.
For the most part, it was an orderly crowd. One of the most impressive things was the quick cleanup. By early Sunday morning, the stages were struck, porta-potties hauled away and trash picked up. The only sign we saw early were portable generators waiting to be picked up.
