NORMAN — The number of working persons in Oklahoma continues to increase.
The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission this week said 1,726,330 persons were employed here in January, up from 1,699,610 a year earlier.
That boost drops the state’s unemployment rate from 5.4 percent a year ago to 5.1 percent. Nationally, 7.9 percent of the labor force is unemployed.
The biggest gains came in the leisure and hospitality industries and construction. For the year, job losses for January were biggest in professional and business services, education and health and other services. The largest job loss was inthe government sector.
