NORMAN — Norman visitors and new residents often comment on how flat it is around here. Indeed, Norman is at the crossroads of the flat western half of the state and the more hilly eastern half.
That lack of hills makes for an easy commute on two wheels. Today is Norman’s Bike to Work Day. Riders will gather for a brief sendoff at Andrews Park after 8 this morning. They’ll meet earlier at the Moore Norman Technology Center, Norman Regional HealthPlex, Norman Regional Porter campus and the Murray Case Sells Swim Complex at OU.
The League of American Bicyclists has recognized May as bike to work month since 1956. The weather is usually most cooperating this month. It’s before the wicked heat grips us and after the spring freezes.
New bicycle racks installed downtown may help some cyclists find a spot to lock their wheels. Motorists are reminded that state law requires a three-foot minimum distance.
