NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
When I opened my Sunday Norman Transcript (Jan. 19, 2014) and turned to page A-5. I was hoping to see an article on our local Norman Tea Party Rally for “Stop Obamacare Penalties Now,” which was just one of the several rallies across the state .... Your photographer/reporter (Jay Chilton) was there taking a good amount of pictures. Instead we get a picture of Ron Standridge and Don Crosson with the above headline “Differing Opinions” concerning a Constitutional Convention. This rally was never focused on that topic, but we will be holding a meeting at a future date to debate how Oklahoma can oppose these attempts by the Federal government to interfere into our private lives.
How can an employee of your newspaper go to a “Stop Obamacare Penalties” rally and totally ignore what this rally was truly about? I myself and my friend Jim Simpson called 30 our representatives and state senators for the Cleveland and Oklahoma counties last week, and we called both Democrats and Republican legislators to our “Stop Obamacare Penalties” rally and offered to give each of them five minutes to speak, if they chose too. When Jim and I made our phone calls, we don’t recall any mention of a Constitutional Convention in our invitations. All your photographer had to do was show the T-shirt that Bob Donohoo was wearing and print that one for your article, which was the subject of our meeting. I’m sure with the many photographs that he took; it’s in his camera somewhere! The table in the back of the room had many more T-shirts, buttons and other reading material that they were selling for the upcoming State Capital Rally on Feb. 4 2014. A picture of that table with merchandise would have let your readers know what our rally was truly about. Not some off shoot sideline subject.
I sometimes get the feeling that the Norman Transcript, at times is an extended hand of the Obama’s News Media (which as you know, is totally against the Tea Party and conservative issues.)
I hope in the future, your papers can be more objective in their reporting and then maybe future customers won’t be canceling their subscriptions. I look forward to more neutral reporting.
