NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Recently, I sent a letter objecting to the announced intention of the director of Mary Abbott House, Clint Williams, to run for city council, because I envisioned a number of conflicts of interest that could confront any director of MAH if the director also was serving on the Norman City Council.
Mr. Williams was kind enough to meet with me, where I detailed my concerns, and he told me how he would respond to each one. I asked him to take my concerns and his responses to the MAH board of directors.
I have been advised by the chairman of the MAH board that a meeting and full discussion was hosted. The board outlined items that they expected Mr. Williams to follow if he was elected to the Norman City Council, and Mr. Williams was in full agreement. On that basis, the board left the decision about running for office to Mr. Williams.
The board of directors of MAH is better qualified than am I to determine what is best for MAH. I withdraw my previously announced objection to the candidacy of Williams for a seat on the Norman City Council.
I appreciate both the MAH board of directors and Mr. Williams for promptly addressing my concerns.
