Piling on grieving family

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — The family of Luis Rodriguez, the man who died after an incident with Moore police officers and private security guards Feb. 15, now has to deal with bandit websites purportedly raising money for them.

The only problem is none of the sites have been authorized by the grieving family. The family plans to eventually set up a website and accept donations, but as of this week, it is not complete.

The bandit site hosts may be well-intentioned, but the Rodriguez family’s attorney says there is no indication the sites will pass any money on to the family.

“We’ve been very moved that there are people, especially in the Latino community, people from other communities, as well, that have been moved to donate a little money,” attorney Michael Brooks-Jimine’nez told Transcript reporter Michael Kinney.

The incident, which is under investigation by the OSBI, is a tragedy for all of the involved parties. Leave it to shameless and faceless bandits to profit from someone else’s misery.
