NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Upon reading the article in Monday’s Transcript about a Senate bill creating a moratorium on wind generators located east of I-35 for three years, I was shocked. The reason given was that we didn’t have enough regulation on the books for Wind Energy, not like we had for oil & gas drilling. Looking more closely I saw that the Senate bill was written by a Republican and was carried overwhelmingly by REPUBLICANS! Yes, those same “we got too much ‘regulation’ of business in this state” Republicans! What is the world coming to?
Looking still closer I found the bill’s author has a huge amount of land in eastern OK and a neighbor had just signed a contract to have a wind farm installed on his property. Does this bill sound a bit self-serving? This does not even mention the absurdity of comparing regulation of wind with that of oil and gas! We still can’t know the chemicals that are pumped into our ground water in fracking, have an oil spill once a month, and all the damage drilling sites do that need regulating. What can wind energy do that needs regulating, beyond be next to a Republican senator’s personal land?
Will we never hear the end of these hypocritical Republicans, crying about too much ‘gov’ment’
regulation when others do it and whining about not enough when one of their own needs a favor or support for “More Gov’ment Regulation?” Oklahoma is perfectly positioned to take advantage of both solar and wind electrical generating, the power of the future. The one thing we don’t need now is crony legislation among “the good ole boys”.
