NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:
Rep. Tom Cole has said he would never vote for a government shutdown. Yet, in effect, he did in the several House votes that led to our current shutdown.
Cole represents a district and a state that is unusually dependent on the federal budget. About one in six jobs in Oklahoma is dependent on the federal government, which places the state in the top 10 federally dependent states.
Mr. Cole’s voting behavior goes against the interest of our district, state and country.
I am a Democrat who voted for Mr. Cole in the last election. My vote was based on his reputation for both integrity and good judgment. I regret to say that his recent legislative actions bring that reputation into question.
