Congratulations Burton

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — It’s with great pride that we watch Norman resident Ron Burton assume the president’s role of Rotary International this week in Lisbon, Portugal.

Burton succeeds Sakuji Tanaka of Japan as the leader of the worldwide organization that has 34,000 clubs in local and international service and humanitarian projects, including its signature project — eradication of polio.

A Duncan native, Burton has been a Norman resident since he was a University of Oklahoma student in the 1960s. He retired as executive director of the OU Foundation in 2007 and has been active in Rotary leadership for decades. He joined the Norman Rotary Club in 1979. Norman currently has three Rotary clubs with a fourth nearly chartered.

Burton and his wife Jetta, a retired teacher and member of the Norman Crosstimbers Rotary Club, are shining examples of our wonderful community — one that often puts service over self.

Congratulations to Burton — we are confident it will be a great year for Rotary both locally and across the world under his leadership.
