NORMAN — A recent Norman Economic Development Coalition report suggests unemployment for November had fallen to 3.8 percent for the Norman area. That compares to 4.4 percent a year earlier.
The November 2011 figure reflects a total workforce of 55,169 compared to the November 2012 count of 58,106. More jobs and more workers are pacing the local economy.
Nationwide, the outlook is nearly as bright. Unemployment filings show fewer workers seeking benefits. The four-week average stayed near a five-year low.
A separate Labor Department report says layoffs fell to a 10-year low in December. Overall hiring, however, has declined, according to an Associated Press report.
