They won’t ‘like’ this

NORMAN — How many visits to the social networking Website Facebook are too many?

State employees visited the site on state computers more than 2 million times in a three-month period this year. Some lawmakers say it’s too many.

Rep. David Derby, R-Owasso, told an Oklahoma City newspaper the visits were a waste of time and workplace productivity. Lawmakers say the state’s Cyber Command Security Operations Center in Oklahoma City can track Website page views on all state computers.

State officials say they can block access to social networking Websites just as they can for gambling and pornography sites. But there are some agencies and employees that have a legitimate use for Facebook visits.

More and more some government agencies are using Facebook to communicate with employees, constituencies, vendors, etc. It’s a broad brush to say state employees are wasting time on Facebook.
